Here is a random selection of comments from recent guests

August 2009  - Mr Grace stayed again and wrote a Limerick this time!

ASHCROFT LIMERICK

If I was asked to make a selection

of the best B & Bs in my recollection

Ashcroft Farmhouse would stand out

without the shadow of a doubt

for you cannot improve on PERFECTION!

April 2009 - a poem by Mr Grace, from South Yorkshire

ODE TO ASHCROFT

With plenty of parking, and so secure

A friendly welcome at the door

Warm and comfortable, the rooms surpass

Anything in a similar class.

Your choice of breakfast, you'll be amazed

that you didn't book for days and days,

But the nicest of all, the thing I like most

is the attitude of the amerable host.

For we've travelled far, we've travelled wide

across the ocean's great divide

Hotels, Motels, Guest Houses too

Bed and Breakfasts, we've tried a few

This I say, and I do not jest,

Ashcroft Farmhouse is the BEST

February 2009

Mr and Mrs White, Wales

I simply typed 'Bed & Breakfast' into Google and the 1st link showed your B & B.  The house looked nice so I followed the links to your website. The location looked perfect - we obviously wanted to be close to Edinburgh but not too close. The bus into Edinburgh was also an attraction. There were only good reviews from other guests.

All in  all we have had a fantastic stay. Many Hotels would not provide as good a standard of room and the breakfasts were fantastic.  Thanks too for clearing the snow from our car!

3 September 2007: a lovely 'poem' sent by George Macdiarmid

Ashcroft Farmhouse

You must have heard of Derek and Elizabeth Scott

They live in Ashcroft Farmhouse in a right fine country spot

This Guest House now for years has won awards galore

A place so clean and tidy you could eat off the floor

Derek plays the 'moothie' and renders 'Amazing Grace'

While Elizabeth delivers the breakfast with the speed of a tennis ace

The food is served with Scottish pride all the guests to please

From the river's Scottish Salmon to honey from the bees

Black pudding, eggs and bacon, with cereals and so much more

Are there to welcome you in the morning to feed your hungry core

Delicious food now in their tums, they'll plan their journey miles

As all the guests they bid goodbye with lots of happy smiles.

Now, if you have the chance to visit down East Calder way

And you want to rest your head at the end of a perfect day

Then take your clothes and things and maybe your lucky spouse

To admire Derek's garden while staying at Ashcroft Farmhouse

Sent by email: Dear Elizabeth and Derek, I wanted to send a note to thank you for the way in which you looked after my husband and myself when we stayed with you in August.  We had a lovely time and we can honestly say that we hope that you got your fifth star as your accommodation and care outshone every other place that we stayed, even though all of the B & Bs were lovely.  Sincerely, Suzette and Bryan Forster, Smiths Falls, Canada

West Lothian: Ashcroft Farmhouse: "Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful"

submitted by Phil Shea, Hamilton, Ontario

Elizabeth and her (much quieter) sidekick Derek have spent years creating their B & B business and it shows in every detail. They have won awards for their establishment. This is clearly not a sideline, but a career for Elizabeth. She is a fantastic hostess and runs the place like a fine Swiss watch. Every detail is attended to with care. Her many years in the B & B business shows in her home and her hospitality. The breakfast would keep Goliath going for a few days! Though we stayed 3 years ago, I notice that the place has only been improved since then ....beautiful new furniture and decor. We haven't been back to Scotland, but when we do, Ashcroft will be the first stop. We have stayed in touch a bit since our visit and it always brings back fond memories when I hear from her.

So why did it take me 3 years to write this review?....I'm new to Trip Advisor but it occurred to me that this was exactly where I should put my comments about Ashcroft.

Don't be put off by the fact that it is not right in Edinburgh ....it's a quick and easy trip into town (new Park & Ride) and a relaxing countryside locale to rest up after a day in the city!

We've spent many a holiday in Scotland and have always enjoyed the Scottish B&Bs, but this one is special. Elizabeth & Derek Scott have created a farm-stay in which the warmth and friendliness of their welcome is matched by their attention to detail and natural concern for the comfort of their guests. Ashcroft Farm is very conveniently situated for Edinburgh, and there is much to see that is both interesting and beautiful within a couple of hours drive. This time we enjoyed Tayside, Stirling and Loch Lomond, as well as visiting relatives in Edinburgh. Ashcroft is a surprisingly short and easy journey from the centre of this fair city. The beds were comfortable, the situation peaceful, the breakfasts sufficient to see a traveller through the best part of the day. We'll certainly be back.

As it was on our first day in Scotland and after almost 500 km driving with our bikes from Hull to East Calder, this was a very warm, gentle and hearty welcome we had from Elizabeth herself. Excellent accomodation, and wonderfull hospitality. Many thanks Elizabeth... see you next time we come over.
Kind Regards
Marc

Elizabeth Scott and her husband Derek couldn't have been any kinder & helpful to us than they were during our recent stay at their place. We arrived with a flat tyre, which we got trying to maneuver the roads from the airport to her place. She was very accommodating, taking my husband to a local fellow who could fix our tyre and rim for us. When she was otherwise occupied she had her son drive my husband to retieve the car when it was servicable again. All this with no extra cost or inconvenience to us. I would say that that was over and above the call of duty.
We stayed in many other establishments during our 3 week vacation but none of them measured up to the hospitality, great breakfasts, and friendliness we received at Ashcroft Farmhouse. They rate the highest amount of thistles in my estimation and we are very thankful and appreciative that we were guests there.
